How to “How to Train Your Dragon” in Minecraft

The official adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon has landed on the Minecraft Marketplace! Fly into the barbaric archipelago, home to Vikings and dragons! There is so much to do and see; from visiting iconic locations, taming dragons, to completing quests with the gang, and even doing battle against the Dragon Trappers! It also comes with twenty-four Vikingly skins for you to use in your own Minecraft worlds. Let’s get started!

How to Explore the Barbaric Archipelago

“This... is Berk. It snows nine months of the year and hails the other three. Any food that grows here is tough and tasteless. The people that grow here are even more so. The only upsides are the pets. While other places have...ponies or parrots, we have... dragons!”

- Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III

The steadfast town of Berk acts as a central hub for your adventures. Here you can meet the riders, play minigames and start your quests! But first, you’ll need to get your dragon flying license by passing Hiccup’s specially designed course at Berk’s Dragon Academy. Back in the day it was used to teach Vikings how to fight dragons, but thanks to Hiccup and Toothless, dragons and Berkians live in harmony.

Hiccup has also tasked you with exploring the entire barbaric archipelago and helping him complete his map! Really, it’s just an excuse to tame a dragon, take to the skies and tour the picturesque places you’ll find around this meticulously crafted Minecraft world. We drew inspiration from both the movie trilogy and the television series, so you’ll find your favourite locations all over. And if you’re not familiar with the franchise, exploring it with your new dragon companions is a great way to discover the world of How to Train Your Dragon.

I won’t spoil any of the secrets the world has to offer, you’ll have to get out there and find them yourself. But now I’m sure you’re thinking “But Mysterious-and-probably-incredibly-cool Blog Person? How do I train my dragon?” Wow, that’s a pretty good question, maybe we should have an entire section about it--

How to Train Your Dragon in How to Train Your Dragon in Minecraft

You can’t explore the world without a trusty dragon companion to ride! There are eight dragons (plus one more that I’m not allowed to talk about 👀) which all have unique behaviours, flight mechanics and attacks! In order to tame them, you’ll need to know their favourite food but you can learn that and more by reading the Book of Dragons. From then on it’ll take some time to build trust, get comfortable with riding, and take to the skies. Taming dragons can be a dangerous game-- but it’s well worth it.

While learning at the Dragon Academy, you’ll tame our specially-trained tutorial dragon, a Gronckle named Pebbles! They love to eat rocks and take long naps on the beach. Pebbles may not be the fastest dragon, but they’ll be by your side no matter what.

Toothless is Berk’s resident hero and the only Night Fury in town. He’s the quickest and most powerful dragon there is-- but he won’t let just anyone ride him. Maybe if you prove yourself to Hiccup and the Gang you could earn Toothless’s respect? I wonder how you would do that...

How to Prove Yourself to Hiccup and the Gang and Also Earn Toothless’s Respect

It’s a Dragon Rider’s duty to help anyone in need! And luckily for you, you’re the main character, so you get all the quests for yourself. Hooray! Each member of the gang needs your help with a mission-- from crafting armor with Gobber to stealing back Berk’s treasure for Chief Stoick, there are plenty of things to do! Each time you complete a quest you can proudly display it in the Great Hall, and once you get them all maybe that thing it says in the title of this section happens! Wow, I am so mysterious.

Not everywhere in the archipelago is peaceful, however. Those gosh-darn Dragon Trappers are back at it again capturing dragons and wreaking havoc. Team up with the ex-trapper Eret to locate their ships and forts, and then take them down. Free the dragons, tame the dragons and now you have more dragon friends! It’s very much a win-win (unless you’re a Dragon Trapper).

Once you’re back in Berk, there’s only one appropriate way to celebrate a successful mission, and that’s DRAGON RACING of course. Dragon Racing is a multiplayer minigame where you and your dragon must grab sheep, swoop and swerve through the air, and then (safely and ethically) drop them into a net. Each sheep scores you a point, and whoever gets the most points wins! Look out for the black sheep, during the game it’ll get (safely and ethically) launched into the air, and whoever captures it gets a ram-load of points. Good luck and have fun, Dragon Racers!

Now, let’s conclude.

How to Abuse This Naming Format Throughout Your Blog Until, By the End, the Titles of the Sections Barely Make Sense

That’s about everything! If taming dragons, riding dragons, racing dragons and training dragons sounds like a good time to you, be sure to check out our map on the Minecraft Marketplace! I hope you have a lovely day!
